Winner of the Engineered in London ICE Award 2016

27 May 2016

CampbellReith is pleased to announce that the Ghana District Hospitals project was the winner in the Engineered in London category at the ICE South East England Engineering Excellence Awards 2016. The Awards were presented by ICE President Sir John Armitage and the BBC’s Presenter Alice Bhandhukravi on Thursday 26 May.

Mike Allen and Simon Boots, CampbellReith partners responsible for this project, attended the ICE Awards ceremony. They were accompanied by Fred Hsu, from our client NMS Infrastructure Ltd; Jonathan Darke and Polly Barker, respectively Principal Director and Project Director at TP Bennett LLP.

Shai Osudoku District Hospital in Dodowa, Ghana, is the first of six hospitals to be finished and inaugurated. The Ghana District Hospitals project is an exemplary illustration of the core values of modern civil engineering. The hospitals will transform the lives of those living in each district and they have been engineered to provide an optimum solution bringing together the best of modern facilities, modern construction methods, knowledge transfer of these methods, and the use of new technologies to achieve a sustainable user friendly layout that economically addresses the site constraints.

The project has involved everything from the use of satellite imagery, drones, Revit 3D, PDS 3D cut and fill analysis to sustainable drainage, solar energy, modern composite wall systems and low energy self-sufficient sewerage treatments.

A team of structural, civil and geotechnical engineers have worked in this project since 2014, including visits to the site in Ghana and work from the UK in collaboration with local colleagues. Mike Allen, Simon Boots and all of the partners at CampbellReith would like to thank all those who have worked so hard to achieve this recognition.
