The commercial refurbishment of Victoria Gate, in Woking, received  the Refurbished/Recycled Award at the British Council for Offices (BCO) South of England and South Wales ceremony on May 2019, held at We The Curious, Bristol.

The category recognises some fantastic projects which make the most of existing buildings to give them a second life and provide for more modern office spaces. Another one of our projects, the refurbishment and vertical extension of 1 Redcliff street in Bristol, was also shortlisted for this category.

Victoria Gate was an existing four storey reinforced concrete office building built in 1985 with structural columns expressed on the exterior and minimal shear walls, relying predominantly on sway stability of the RC frames. The refurbishment included adding an extra storey to the building and enlarging existing floor plates along the perimeter of the building, thus the columns would no longer be expressed externally.

To know more about the project, please see the case study here. We are looking forward to the BCO  national awards in October.
