University of Portsmouth visit

8 August 2024

It was great to meet some of the Engineering Geology and Civil Engineering Masters students and course leaders during a University of Portsmouth (UoP) visit recently.

The ground investigation for the University’s new concrete & geotechnical laboratory and Faculty of Technology Building is underway so, with several UoP alumni within the CampbellReith team, we took the opportunity to explain the borehole drilling methods, sampling techniques, and context behind the investigation. The structure may require a piled foundation solution, so we were vigilant about the potential sub-artesian ground water conditions identified during the desk study, and the students were able to estimate the undrained shear strength of the Wittering Formation from the drilling logs. Both key pieces of information to inform pile design.

CampbellReith is serious about social value and look forward to more involvement with the UoP students and alumni as this exciting project comes to fruition.
