‘Time is Running Out’ Exhibition

3 July 2024

Our civil engineers, Isabel Clements and Ruth Fletcher, recently represented the ICE as STEM ambassadors by being part of their national touring exhibition ‘Time is Running Out’ at its current venue, Jodrell Bank. This exhibition explores the role of civil engineers in helping society respond to the challenges of climate change and meet net zero targets by 2050.

The Jodrell Bank Centre provided an impressive back drop to their presentations. They met with around two hundred perceptive and engaging year seven and eight students from visiting secondary schools and had the opportunity to talk to them about what we do in our everyday working life to tackle climate change.

They discussed the different types of civil engineering and focused on the causes, types and impacts of flooding. They also explained sustainable urban drainage systems and greenfield run off rates; to help the students to understand how civil engineers can design flood resilient infrastructure.

They are looking forward to further opportunities to encourage the next generation of civil engineers to consider what their part could be in creating sustainable infrastructure!
