Kilnwood Vale – Landfill Remediation – Shortlisted for Best Sustainable Brownfield Regeneration Project

19 July 2024

CampbellReith is delighted to be shortlisted for the Brownfield Award 2024 Best Sustainable Brownfield/Urban Regeneration/Infrastructure Scheme.

The Kilnwood Vale project near Gatwick, transformed a 205-hectare site, including a former 60-hectare landfill, into a vibrant community including affordable homes, a primary school, retail and employment use, community facilities and green spaces with naturalized SuDS and a brook.

An overview of the site:

CampbellReith has provided the engineering consultancy services to facilitate the onward development of the landfill. This has incorporated land assessments, remediation design, geotechnical treatment, civil engineering of roads and drainage and structural inputs to bridges. The remediation combined innovative techniques and adapted earthworks/surcharging strategies to manage ground stability and gas risk.

The remediation has been guided by sustainable development principles, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals and the government’s Social Value commitments.
