Homes England has appointed Cognition Land & Water Ltd as contractors for one of the largest demolition contracts in the South West, which is a major step forward in delivering new homes at Coypool Park in Plymouth.
The former Marsh Mills china clay drying site contains 30,000sqm of large derelict buildings and hazardous materials. On the back of detailed technical work carried out by CampbellReith, Homes England secured detailed planning consent for demolition works. Cognition has been appointed to make the site safe and to clear the way for redevelopment of the site for up to 550 new homes, community facilities and 11.5 hectares of woodland.
LDA Design is leading the planning and masterplanning for redevelopment, including proposals to improve the quality of the woodland which will be used creatively for recreation, habitat improvement and to define the character of the new development.
Paul Britton, Senior Development Manager at Homes England, said: “Coypool Park is our flagship housing project in Plymouth as it redevelops a derelict site and will deliver much needed housing that is enhanced by its woodland setting whilst being only a 15 minute bus ride into the City Centre. I am therefore delighted to be taking this major step in preparing the site.”
Homes England will continue to consult stakeholders and local residents about development proposals over the coming weeks ready for an Outline Planning Application to be submitted in July 2019.
