This is the next in our series of articles following our ‘Geotechnical Consulting Firm of the Year’ award earlier this year and is our final post of before the Christmas break. We would like to highlight the geotechnical teams weekly Career Personal Development and knowledge sharing efforts.
We are grateful to have such a diverse range of backgrounds and skills within our geotechnical team, so we have a group meeting 1 lunch time per week for a team member to present on a topic to help broaden our knowledge base. This often includes but it is not limited to:
- An individual’s area of expertise
- Recent projects
- Software tutorials
- Key publications
- Lectures
- New standards
- Company policy
- Sustainability
The team comprises a mix of geologists and engineers who are active members of various professional institutions meaning there is never any shortage of new material! In addition, we always enjoy having external speakers who can present new research and products to use in future projects. Some of the talks this year have been:
- Unique engineering behaviours of chalk
- Gabion retaining walls
- Stereonets
- An overview of the GE sustainability conference
- TBM Tunnelling
- External presentation on deep soil mixing
- The use of timber piles in the UK
- Sheet piling
These relaxed and highly informative meetings are a great way to get to know one another, build continuing professional development and provide valuable presenting experience for the more junior members of the team.
We look forward to another year of interesting projects in 2024.
Wishing you all a merry Christmas and happy new year.
