CL:AIRE‘s 20th-anniversary conference was a great success. The discussions regarding the future for the Definition of Waste Code of Practice (DoW CoP) and how industry should regulate soil re-use were excellent. The examples and case studies presented showed that DoW CoP is a great tool and that the code helps our industry enormously.
We missed the feedback from the Environment Agency, who sadly couldn’t attend because of the upcoming elections. It would have been great to hear their side on how they see it progressing, particularly with respect to old landfills, which have been singled out for special attention.
“Having worked in the environmental consultancy field since 1993, it was a delight to be invited to Chair the first session of the Sustainable Soils Re-Use and DoW:CoP (Definition of Waste Code of Practice) section of CL:AIRE’s 20th-anniversary conference.
There were many highlights but the most notable for me were the discussions over potential alternatives to regulating the protection and reuse of soil.”
