This £30m development on Corsham Street, in Hackney, is situated on a constricted site and is formed of 6-11 storeys with a one storey basement.
CampbellReith provided structural, civil and geotechnical design for the proposed 50,000 ft² student accommodation scheme in Hackney, East London.
The building is split into two main blocks ranging in height with 12 m clear open space at ground, first and second floor levels. This is to create a central ‘student street’ and communal area for the students.
The building is of insitu reinforced concrete framed construction. There is a 5 m cantilever section which supports 9 storeys of lightweight frame above. This forms a dramatic architectural feature on one of the main blocks.
The student accommodation is focused on the upper floors and a large transfer deck is required at second floor to form the open plan areas for the amenity spaces and offices.
