Inclusion of pond with dipping platform
CampbellReith were commissioned by Kier Construction Southern to deliver a new 2FE Primary School as part of the wider Ebbsfleet Garden City.
CampbellReith provided Civil and Structural Engineering services for a new primary school which formed part of the wider Ebbsfleet Garden City development.
The new school includes twostorey modular building with associated play space, parking, multi-use games area (MUGA) and landscaping. The main school works were completed in October 2021.
The CampbellReith geotechnical department undertook a review of existing ground investigation works which had suggested several meters of fill over the site. Due to the prevailing ground conditions, piled foundations with ground beams were adopted beneath the modular construction.
The drainage strategy made extensive use of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) to restrict flows from the site whilst providing amenity and biodiversity benefits. The strategy included a pond, swales permeable car park, porous MUGA, filter drains and an attenuation tank. The inclusion of the pond was of particular value to the school as it allowed the SuDS feature to be utilised year-round as a teaching resource via the inclusion of an innovative timber raised pond-dipping platform designed by the CampbellReith structures team.
