CampbellReith has worked as part of the multidisciplinary team to advise on civils, structural and transport elements of the design of the Bourne Estate, in Holborn.
The project included the demolition of a five storey residential block and the construction of two new seven storey buildings to increase both the number and the quality of homes. The new buildings include improved community facilities, meeting rooms, games area for children and bicycle storage.
We reviewed the historic information and carried out a ground investigation. We considered the effects of demolition and construction of the buildings on an existing estate to minimise disruption to residents. We worked with the London Borough of Camden to agree rerouting of waste collection through the estate, retention of existing parking provision and stopping up orders and relocation of a loading bay to agree the new building line.
The project has been very successful at various awards since its completion, receiving the following awards:
- Housing Design Awards – Overall Winner and the NHS 70 Winner
- RIBA London Award 2018
- Camden Design Awards 2017
