Aperture Work, Former Kodak Factory

Aperture Works, is the former Kodak Factory and Phase A of the Harrow Road East redevelopment. CampbellReith has been engaged to develop the structural and civil design through to construction and site delivery.

The development comprises an irregular shaped plot of approximately 3.7 ha and will be home to 650 residential units (including assisted living), a healthcare centre and flexible commercial space. The buildings are arranged in five separate blocks with building heights from five- to 12-storey. Some blocks comprise a two-storey podium with car park at first floor level and amenity space at the second, which will be accessible by the residents. The car park is at ground levels and transfer beams are required to provide access.

The primary structural solution is a reinforced concrete frame supported in reinforced concrete pile foundations.  We have undertaken several detailed option studies to determine the viability of modern methods of construction.  This included a lightweight steel framing solution for the 12-storey blocks above podium level.

Located to the north of Headstone Drive, Harrow, London the site is bounded by the Waverley Industrial Estate to the east.
