"I love identifying the constraints to a development but better still, working out what opportunities exist to deliver a better environmental outcome."

First and foremost, I’m a pragmatic environmental engineer with a passion for protecting the environment and delivering sympathetic development on brownfield sites. I’ve led teams on some very challenging but satisfying projects over the years for the public sector in order to facilitate regeneration in line with sustainability principles. For the last 19 years, I’ve been developing my skills as a land regeneration specialist, initially focusing on contaminated land risk assessment and remediation design, however over the years I have expanded my experience and knowledge of other engineering disciplines to advise on masterplans and planning applications. Therefore, I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to lead multi-discplinary teams of ecologists, geotechnical engineers, civil and transportation engineers in delivering these new residential schemes and to be able to learn new skills whilst doing so.

My project experience has typically comprised of work on large, complex developments usually located in sensitive environments, where an integrated approach to assessment, planning and design are required. The key to the success of these projects has generally been down to the effective collaboration with co-consultants and communication of various issues to understand the complex interactions that exist between social, environmental, and economic drivers. I would also say that I am motivated by the challenges that occur, and the need to solve difficult problems with innovative solutions. I love identifying the constraints to a development, but better still, working out what opportunities exist to deliver a better environmental outcome.

I am hugely proud that CampbellReith is in the position to provide multi-disciplinary consultancy to Homes England, and the wider public sector over the years which has brought much needed regeneration to socially deprived areas whilst protecting the environment.

On the outside, analytical, organised and focused but there is a fun side that reflects passion and a love for work.

Outside of engineering

My free time is generally spent with my family, enjoying everything that rural living has to offer. Whether it be taking long walks with the dog, working on our allotment, cycling the local lanes or just simply sitting in a boat in the middle of a reservoir fishing.
