Josh Chastney

Josh is the Associate within the geotechnical team in the Bristol office where he is responsible for the delivery of geotechnical designs and reports whilst also providing support to CampbellReith’s structural and civil engineers. He grew up in Bristol and joined CampbellReith in 2014 in the Redhill Office following his move down from Manchester where he began his career as a Geotechnical Engineer and also where completed his studies at the University of Manchester with a first class honours degree.

Josh has a passion for getoechnical design and has extensive experience in the design of reinforced earth, foundations and retaining walls and has worked on a variety of projects including large infrastructure projects, multi storey basements, hospitals within Africa and remedial slope stabilisation designs.

Josh has designed, managed and procured a large number of ground investigations across both the UK and Africa whilst working for CampbellReith and ‘gained his stripes’ on site managing drilling rigs and logging exploratory holes in the North of England and Scotland whilst working for his previous company.

Josh is experienced in the use of specialist geotechnical software and has completed a large number of Geotechnical Design Reports, Interpretive Geotechnical Reports, Ground Investigation Reports, Ground Movement Assessments, Basement Impact Assessments, Slope Stability Analysis, Settlement Analysis, Coal Mining Risk Assessments, Desk Top Studies, Earthworks Specifications, Ground Improvement Specifications and Piling Specifications.

Part of the team which won Consultancy of the Year at the 2017 Ground Engineering Awards.

Geotechnical lead on the North Bexhill Access Road project which won numerous ICE awards.

Geotechnical lead on the Ghana district hospitals project which won numerous ICE awards.

Project Lead on Dorking Landslip Remediation which was shortlisted for 3 Ground Engineering 2020 Awards.

Outside of engineering

In his spare time Josh enjoys spending time outdoors mountain biking / hiking, watching sports, and inspecting the inside of Bristol’s pubs at weekends.
