“I am unique as you don’t often find a BA graduate in my role, I don’t have a science or engineering background but I have got to where I am due to a love for problem solving, helping to create amazing buildings and working as part of a team!”
For the last ten years I have worked in engineering, however, I originally did a BA in English and Philosophy in Canada before going on to do a vocational course in Structural Drafting. Originally, I assumed I would go into architecture, however I was taken by the holistic perspective of structural engineering drawings. A good structural engineer needs to have knowledge in every discipline, and they often play a pivotal role in the project without getting too rooted in the detail of the other disciplines.
I briefly worked in Canada before moving to the UK in 2003 and I started my career at CampbellReith in 2013 after working in both large and small companies. Throughout my career I have worked in a variety of sectors, including residential, commercial, leisure and education.
My primary focus over the last ten years has been on healthcare projects where I have been fortunate to work on Brighton 3T’s hospital and UCLH’s Proton Beam Therapy project. I now manage the Revit Team in the London office, and provide support whilst being responsible for company BIM standards.
Clear standards, communication, and coordination are three factors that I am passionate about. I love modelling a building and being able to see it come together knowing that we have exceeded the client’s expectations. This outcome happens best when everyone in the team works together in a coordinated and collaborative way.
