The CampbellReith involvement on this international project is principally provision of civil, structural and geotechnical expertise for the design and construction of 3 district hospitals and 108 regional clinics for the Zambian Ministry of Health. This commission was awarded, in part, following similar successful projects in Ghana and CampbellReith is responsible for ?ood protection, access road, drainage, sewerage, landscaping and building structures design for the facilities.
GIS has been used to interrogate the existing site levels and create cross sections to help visualise how the proposed buildings and drainage features will relate to the existing ground levels. Aerial imagery and LiDAR data provided some preliminary context and allowed the closest watercourses each site could drain towards to be determined. All of this information fed into the initial drainage designs and proposed bulk earthworks for each hospital site.
Proposed dug ground investigation plans have also been created within GIS taking into account the location of proposed structures and existing ground conditions noted within the topographic surveys.
