Meet the team

Charlotte Stephenson

Senior Environmental Scientist

After graduating from Newcastle University in 2017 with a BSc Geography degree, I knew I wanted to pursue a career within the environmental sector. Finding experience was difficult since very few companies were willing to offer any opportunities; luckily, I managed to spend some time at the Environment Agency and my local council’s environmental protection team, which included exposure to the industry of contaminated land.

After 18 months with CampbellReith, my role has evolved. I started off with a placement for work experience where I was able to provide hands-on support to the Land Quality team. As Project Environmental Scientist, I am actively involved in assessing land condition and undertaking Tier 1 and 2 Contamination Risk Assessments for large and diverse developments for residential and commercial – both public and private sector.

I have a passion for the human health. Working with CampbellReith gives me the opportunity to work with out clients (landowners, developers) and our communities to protect them from the impact of contamination – whether this is the land itself, the buildings or controlled waters.

My most significant project to date is Spencer’s Farm – a former landfill site spanning 20ha. The new scheme proposes around 500 homes, sports facilities and a new school. As a environmental scientist, I feel I can make a real difference to the site’s feasibility based on the exciting plans of our developer client and the community itself.

Outside of engineering

When I have the time, I love to travel. I have been fortunate enough to visit over 25 countries across four continents, being immersed in many different cultures and making endless memories. If I had to choose, I would say my favourite trip was spending three weeks backpacking around Bali.
